The bill can currently be carried with support to the State Senate for passing before a final sign-off into law by Governor Hochul.  



The big apple State Assembly passed a bill late on weekday that will place a biennial ban on all new proof-of-work (PoW) cryptocurrency mining facilities within the state that use a carbon-based fuel to power their operations. 

The bill, sponsored by anna Kelles, wouldn't solely impose a biennial hold on approval of any new Bitcoin mines, however the projected moratorium would also prevent the renewal of permits issued to existing captive cryptocurrency miners victimization carbon sourced energy if they seek to increase the number of electricity consumed. 

The bill gathered the support it required to pass, with 95 in favor and 52 against, and can currently be carried by senator Kevin Parker for a select the State Senate. If no-hit, it'll then be delivered to Governor Kathy Hochul, who will veto the bill or sign it into law. 

The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) would be tasked by the bill with preparing a “generic environmental impact statement” to variety, find and assess the energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions of captive miners and their impact on public health.
